PhD in Biochemical Sciences from UNAM and postdoctoral research in Glycobiology at the University of Lille 1, France.

He has been involved in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he currently holds the chair in Biochemistry, in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO), where he has taught the Immunology and Biochemistry module; he has also taught postgraduate courses at UNAM and UABJO, and is head of the Biosciences Academic Staff. He is head of the Laboratory of Genomics, Proteomics and Cancer Genomics. He is a Level I member of the National Research System (SNI) and has 20 national and 50 international scientific publications to his name, which attest to his expertise in the study of glycosylation including the identification of glycosylated markers, the development of tools such as lectins, and their application as well as the use of other methodologies to investigate changes in molecules present in both normal and cancerous (breast cancer) which undergo changes in structure and composition due to the presence of sugars through a post-translational modification known as O-glycosylation. He is a founding member of the Mexican Society of Crystallography, the Mexican Society of Biochemistry, the Mexican Society of Immunology, the Latin American Society of Glycobiology and the International Society of Glycobiology. His research interests includes glycobiology, Cancer, Biochemistry, Cell biology.
